When we do so, our analysis shows that lottery winnings improve well-being only to a modest extent. Moreover, the results suggest that lottery winnings increase happiness only in individuals who are already satisfied with their lives. This finding is at odds with the conventional wisdom that lottery winnings can boost happiness.
